Santa Clara Ranch Preserve

]]>The Santa Clara Ranch is a wildlife preserve located in the Rio Grande Valley which is designed specifically for photographers. Five comfortable blinds allow the photographer to get extremely close to the mammals and birds that gather around the pools. Nine of us, all members of the Heard Nature Photographers, a camera club in North Texas, spent four days at the site in November, 2012. New Pickens Rodeo 2024

]]>This Fall I discovered the New Pickens Rodeo was not more than 15miles from my new home in South Carolina. For 4 Saturdays I loaded up my camera equipment and headed to Picken, SC. The contestants are all very young in most events but many have the desire to move on to the big shows. All images are shot with a Nikon z9 and a variety of Nikkor lens. While there are artificial lights around the perimeter, even the z9 works hard with high ISOs because we want to freeze the action with high shutter speeds. The lens apertures are wide open!

2023 Wreaths Across America

]]>On December 16.2023 several hundred volunteers came out to the Black Mountain Veterans Cemetery to place wreaths of appreciation on the gravestones of passed veterans. The closing ceremony included an Honor Guard of young Civil Air Patrol cadets, a proclamation by the Sons of the American Revolution, a musket salute by a reenactment group, many American Flags displayed by the Patriot Guard Riders and the Combat Vets Association; the singing of the National Anthem, and finally a bugle presentation of Taps.

]]>In January of 2023 I attended a photo workshop in Arizona hosted by Lisa Langell Photography called the Magic of Cowboys. We were presented with a group of real cowboys and cowgirls that worked on the Don Donnelly D Spur Ranch where the workshop was held. We also had the opportunity to photograph reenactment actors and the beautiful desert surroundings.
Some images present themselves better as Monochrome. Compare the two galleries!

]]>In February of 2023 I attended a photo workshop hosted by Vinny Colucci. We were able to drive into the Orlando Wetlands. Normally you would have to hike in with all of your equipment. This group is the last ever to travel the service roads deep into the wetlands.

]]>The Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina are incredibly beautiful. All of these images are panoramas created from individual photos stitched together on a horizonal plane using digital technology. The use of the panorama is the only way that you can even come close to capturing the majesty of the mountains!
