Hoping to photograph the Grand Canyon with a "dusting" of snow we drove to the South Rim of the canyon in December of 2009. That night there was a hint that snow may be on the way. The next morning we drove out the last 4 miles from our hotel and the snow began falling...falling and falling...over 3 feet that day. We left after 3 hours of shivering in the blowing snow. Our attempt to return the next day was in vain as our car could not move through the deep snow. We retreated to Flagstaff for two days and returned in calmer weather to finish our task of photographing the majestic canyon.
